Grassroots organization to support funding the Children's Services Council of Brevard
Put Brevard Kids First was a registered Florida Political Committee (PC) created with the express purpose to raise funds and run a public education campaign to support funding the Children's Services Council of Brevard, had a referendum been placed on the ballot. After the County Commission declined to place the question on the ballot in 2018, Put Brevard Kids First political committee was disbanded and transitioned to a 501c4 advocacy not-for-profit.
Put Brevard Kids First is chaired by dedicated community activist Jeff Kiel. His goal is to lead a coalition of volunteers, supporters, donors and organizations in engaging the public on this opportunity to invest in the lives of Space Coast children.
Jeff Kiel most recently served as President and Publisher of FLORIDA TODAY and Treasure Coast Newspapers and Florida Regional President for Gannett, one of the nation’s leading media companies.
Prior to returning to his home state of Florida, from 2008 through February 2012, Jeff was Executive Vice President of Westinghouse Solar, an innovative renewable energy company based in Silicon Valley California.
From 1987 to 2008, he served in a number of media industry roles for Knight Ridder, Inc., a Fortune 500 media company. His positions included President and Publisher and VP of Sales and Marketing for the San Jose Mercury News (2002 to 2008) and Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the Miami Herald (1998 to 2002).
Jeff began his professional career as a CPA specializing in audit with Ernst and Young, an international public accounting firm in Miami Florida.
Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Florida and is a CPA in the state of Florida.
He has served the United Way of Brevard County over the last six years as Chairman of the Board, Fundraising Chairman and a member of its executive committee. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Florida Today’s Reaching Out Holiday Fund charity and been a board member of the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast. Jeff has also served on boards of the Special Olympics, the Miami Children’s Hospital Civic Council and the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Jeff and his wife Gayle reside in Viera and have two adult children. Alexa - PR Manager with Silicon Valley based technology company Adobe - and Ryan, the Assistant Athletic Director at Eastern Florida State College. Ryan, and his wife Joanna, reside in Viera with their one-year old son Brady.
